Steve Praise For Alex Fans

Alex boss dismisses claims of fans turning on players

Steve Davis has heaped praise on the Alex fans for the way they got behind their team in the 2-2 draw with Peterborough at the weekend.

Speaking after the game, Posh manager Darren Ferguson revealed  scout reports suggested there could be some pressure from the Alex fans. Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph: “The reports we had on Crewe suggested they would be nervous and that their crowd could turn on them quickly so it was important we started well.”

But Davis has dismissed these claims. Steve told crewealex.net: “I am not sure that is the case. Maybe that is what their scouts picked up from different games, but I have never thought that. Our fans are no different to any other crowd, they want their team to do well and if it is not going well they show their dissatisfaction.

“The crowd is always important. At certain times in the game you can sense their anxiety and I can feel that behind me when I am on the touchline. But I am no different because I feel that anxiety as well.

“On Saturday the crowd really played their part in trying to get us over the line. They were really good and I have no qualms with our support. They have been fantastic since I took over in the job and they fully support what I am doing.”
