No Risk Taken With Vadaine

Steve says he decided not to risk Oliver at the weekend

Striker Vadaine Oliver should be fit and available for the weekend clash with Gillingham. Oliver was not risked for the trip to Boundary Park after picking up a dead leg against Walsall and was only able to train on Friday.

Manager Steve Davis decided not to risk the former Lincoln City man and re-united Max Clayton with AJ Leitch-Smith in the Crewe attack. Oliver has successfully returned to training and is fully expected to be fit and available for the visit of the Gills this Saturday.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Vadaine had a bad injury, a severe dead leg and he was a major doubt all week.

“He managed to train on Friday and just about got through it but I didn’t think it was worth taking the risk. I didn’t want to play him and then for him to aggravate it and force me to take him off anyway.

“He understood the situation and accepted it. I am not keen on players only training on a Friday and then playing but I am sure he will be available for the weekend.”
