Davis on Gills threat of Akinfenwa and Kedwell
The Crewe Alexandra defence come face-to-face with old nemesis Adebayo Akinfenwa tomorrow afternoon and they know from past experience what the powerful target man can offer. Akinfenwa has always been a constant threat to the Crewe Alexandra defence, most notably from his days with Northampton Town and Steve Davis and his assistant Neil Baker have worked with dealing with his strength and shooting ability this week.
Ahead of our home clash with Gillingham the Crewe boss told Crewe Alex Player: “Akinfenwa is a real handful. He is a very powerful forward who has good awareness around him.
“He is good in the air and holds the ball up for others come into play. He isn’t as mobile as he used to but he is very physical and the centre-halves know they are in the game because if they switch off then he has a knack of scoring goals. His record against us is decent.
He added: “Danny Kedwell is the same breed. He is another type of old fashioned centre-forward, who has scored a lot of goals. He links up the play and can play a bit deeper and is a real threat from set-play as well.”
