Davis pleased with forwards link-up play

Steve Davis was encouraged by the interchanging between young forwards AJ Leitch-Smith and Max Clayton. The Alex boss was pleased that the two former Academy graduates combined throughout the game with both going close to adding to Oliver Turton’s early strike at Boundary Park.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “I thought the front two worked hard and were linking up well on Saturday. They worked hard and were linking up well with the two wide men. They were a threat, especially in the first half.

“They were causing them problems in that first half and it was more encouraging from them. Their decision making and quality in the final third could have been better at times, but it is something we will work on to make sure we are more decisive in those positions.

He added: “It was a young team on Saturday, one of the youngest I’ve ever selected and the average age would have been around 20, 21 so that was good. It is something to build on and given us a foundation. I wanted 100% effort as the minimum and we got that.”
