Alex boss will be working on problems all day this week
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits that the first goal in Saturday’s game against Walsall was decisive. After what the manager described as a rather ‘drab’ first half, the Saddlers scored that all important first goal during a second phase from a corner and the opening strike gave Dean Smith’s side an extra belief. After Gregor Robertson had conceded a penalty for Craig Westcarr to slot home his second goal of the afternoon, Crewe were chasing a game that had slipped away from them in the matter of minutes.
“The first goal was always going to be key on Saturday and them getting it gave them more belief and confidence. It looked like being 0-0 as there were not many chances at either end but before we knew it we were 2-0 down and having to chase the game. Steve told the club’s official web-site:
“We got caught a few times on the break and got punished when Mark (Ellis) tried to win the ball. We are making the same mistakes and we need to get to the bottom of it. I am sure it is about keeping their concentration better.
“We will work on it again all week. There will be no day off. They have to earn time off, so we will be out morning and afternoon to see if that will make a difference.”
