Boss wants higher tempo in the final third of the pitch

Following last night's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Stevenage, Steve Davis still wants his Crewe players to continue express themselves and certainly play quicker football in the final third of the pitch. Crewe slipped back into making defensive mistakes as Graham Westley's side raced into a three goal lead within 20 minutes. The Alex boss was left surprised as Crewe had enjoyed two clean-sheets in the previous two games.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We had worked hard on becoming harder to beat so I was surprised with the start we made. The mistakes were back and killed us.

“Saying that I want us to play quicker in the final third of the pitch as well. I want us to play more one touch, two-touch football and zip the ball around more. All the top teams like Arsenal and Tottenham play very quickly in the final third.

“That is what I want us to do. I want us to create chances and play exciting football and we are working hard on moving the ball quicker. I want the players to express themselves and try things in the final third.

“I want them to be expressive and think quickly so we can become good enough to play through. We are not going to be Arsenal but we can learn from them and how they attack in and around the box.”
