Boss annoyed by 'easy' goals against
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that our season is not going to turn around any time soon unless we stop conceding what he describes as ‘easy goals’.
The Alex boss says that Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Notts County was harsh on his side with every individual mistake being heavily punished at the moment.
Crewe were very much in the game before Callum McGreogor unleashed a shot close to 30-yards out that went through a collection of bodies and past Steve Phillips to open the scoring.
The second goal came on the counter-attack from our set-play and the third Phillips palmed down a cross into the path of Danny Haynes for a killer third goal.
Steve told crewealex.net: “It seems that every little mistake we are making is being punished. We are suffering because of it because it makes it difficult to come back all the time from 2-0 or 3-0 down. The lads gave their all but we conceded what I would say are easy goals.
“The opposition are having to work too hard to score against us and that is what we need to look at. The first goal has gone past a host of our defenders and I thought there would be enough bodies there when he has shot from about 30 yards out.
“The second goal has come out of nothing and we got caught out on the break after Byron (Moore) slipped in the build up to it.
“The third one, Steve has neither caught or punched it and has tapped it down to their forward and that third goal was a killer. If we would have got it back to 2-1 after half-time and the way we were playing at the time, could have given us the confidence to go again.
He added: “We are conceding too many easy goals at the moment and not converting our own chances so that is a worry for us but we have to keep getting our heads down and work through it.”
