Davis says recaptured team spirit has us in better place

Steve Davis is confident that his squad is beginning to gel and evolve after he brought in five new faces in during the summer and re-signed Chuks Aneke on loan from Arsenal. The Alex boss had to find a different way of replacing his former captain Luke Murphy and the likes of Brad Inman and Anthony Grant needed some time to recapture their form and fitness after they missed most of the pre-season work. A fine 2-0 win at Preston was a massive stride in the right direction and moved us out of the bottom four.

Steve admits that the squad had to evolve and admits that it has taken a bit of time to implement that sense of togetherness and team spirit.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It can take a bit of time for new players to settle in and we signed five in the summer and brought Chuks back in on loan to improve the competition. We couldn’t replace Luke (Murphy) like for like and went for a different approach.

“Every club has that to content with and it takes time for a new squad to evolve. Our success has been built on a strong team spirit and a collective unit and we needed time to get that back. It is back now and it is important because to be successful that has to be right.

“We have it back to where we want it to be and hopefully that will see a real improvement in terms of results and performances.”
