Steve - A Harsh Result

Alex boss encouraged despite heavy loss

Boss Steve Davis was remaining positive after Crewe Alexandra suffered a 4-0 defeat against Notts County at Meadow Lane.  A first-half double by Celtic loanee Callum McGreggor and second-half goals by Danny Haynes and Marcus Haber condemned the Alex to a defeat that Davis felt was harsh.

Speaking after the game, Davis said: "We probably had more shots on target than them and we played reasonably well.

"If you haven't been you'd think we'd been thrashed but if you have been you will have seen a much better performance. We had two or three great chances early on and if they had gone in it may have been different.

"I am hugely disappointed by the result but encouraged by the performance. Their goals were out of nothing  but we were punished for every little mistake, we are suffering for it.

"We are lacking confidence but the players can't get their heads down they have to keep working at it. We had some good performances, Matt Tootle was excellent.

"It was not about willingness and determination, just silly mistakes at the back and we haven't been clinical enough going forward.

"What changes your fortunes is a result and that what we need. It was a decent performance but the wrong result. I feel a lot better this week even though the scoreline doesn't reflect that.

"The ease of the goals that are going in against us is worrying. But I can't fault the effort, but we have to turn it around."
