Gaffer disappointed by killer opening 20 minutesSteve Davis couldn't hide his disappointment after his side slipped to another 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Stevenage after a disaster of an opening 20 minutes. Two goals from Filipe Morais and another deflected effort from Luke Freeman sealed an impressive start from Stevenage but Crewe's defensive errors let to our downfall.
After the 3-0 defeat, Steve told the club's official web-site: "In the dressing room, I told them what I have been telling them previous to the last two games. When we look like showing signs of recovery in our performances our mistakes have come back in and we have been punished. When those individual mistakes occur and we concede three goals in ten minutes, so early in the game, the confidence is very hard to get back. We haven't shown that fight this season to come back from 1-0 down so three makes it virtually impossible.
"When we concede, some of them go a bit and when those mistakes occur in the game, it really hits us. Our confidence hinges on something that happens in a game and it is something we have to overcome. I wasn't really expecting that today and it shows what we need to do. No-one believed we had cracked it. After if there were any who did believe they will know we haven't.
"We know there is a lot of work to do and that is something I said even after Saturday's game against Bristol City. We know that. We have to roll our sleeves up and go again. We have got to get back to what we have been doing over over the previous two games when we were solid and creating chances. We have a big game coming up against Sheffield United and have to show some fighting character to get back on track.
"I will have to look at the goals again. There were mistakes made and I will have to go through them properly because they happened so quickly. Everything they seemed to hit in the opening 20 minutes went in. We just couldn't keep it out and it is disappointing after two good results. "
