Davis says Nigel appointment will give Sheffield lift

Steve Davis says that the recent appointment of Nigel Clough as the new manager of Sheffield United will certainly make for a better atmosphere at Bramall Lane tomorrow. Clough was rather surprisingly sacked by Derby County after five years of building at Pride Park but he has made a quick return to the management game to try and help the Blades climb up the table.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “A trip to Bramall Lane is always a really good game to come into, especially with Nigel coming in as the new manager. He will have different ideas and tactics and will want to install his own philosophy on the club but that will take time.

“He has only been there a few days, so won’t have had chance to do too much with them but him being there will give them a lift. It should mean there will be a bigger crowd there and it will be important that we play the game and not the occasion.

“We will have to concentrate on what we want to do and not on what is going on around us. All the pressure is on them in front of their fans so we have to try and use that to our advantage but playing well and making it difficult for them.

“That can work both ways. If we score first then it could put added pressure on them. If they score first then they will have close to 20,000 fans up and supporting them.

“Nigel has come into another big club. He did a good job at Derby and it was a surprise that he was sacked so early into the season, but he wanted to come straight back into it and Sheffield United are a club who have a new investor and have been prepared to spend money.”
