Grant Has Been Influential

Boss says key midfielder is beginning to showcase his game

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that we are now beginning to see the best of Anthony Grant following his summer switch from Stevenage. Grant, 26, produced his most influential performance of the season to help the club record a much-needed 2-0 win over Preston last weekend and Davis says now Grant is beginning to recapture his match fitness, his performances are improving by the game.

A drawn out pursuit of Grant in the summer led to him missing the pre-season work and the former Southend midfielder understandably needed some time to recapture his fitness and subsequence form.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We tried very hard to sign Anthony in the summer because we knew he could be an influential player for us. It took time to get him here and that meant he didn’t have a proper pre-season.

“We never thought he would be a direct replacement for Luke (Murphy) and we knew it would take him some time to settle in and get his fitness levels back to where they should be. He has been playing catch-up.

“It has taken him a bit of time to find his feet but he has played well in the last few weeks and he is fitting into our style of play more.

The boss added: “He likes to run with the ball more and we have said to him that’s fine as long as he doesn’t get caught in possession. He is good at running with and without the ball and has only got better at that, the fitter he has become. He is a very competitive lad and he has helped the team a lot.”
