Mark Ellis says Crewe need to build on Preston result with home advantage

Defender Mark Ellis says last weekend’s fantastic win away at Preston North End won’t taste as half of good unless we can acquire some more points from our upcoming home matches against Bristol City and Stevenage. First up this weekend is Sean O’Driscoll’s Bristol City side and Ellis is looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this season to move us closer to mid-table in League One.

Ellis was excellent at Deepdale alongside Adam Dugdale as the club recorded their first away win and first clean-sheet in the league of the season. Ellis enjoyed his battle with his former Bolton team-mate Kevin Davies and emerged with great credit after a previous indifferent display away at Fleetwood just days earlier.

Ahead of the visit of the Robins, Mark told us: “I think everybody would have looked at a club like Bristol City at the start of the season and said they would be challenging at the top of the league.

A couple of wins sends you right up the league. "They were relegated from the Championship last season, have a good budget to work with and good players. It hasn’t quite happened for them so far, but like I’ve said about us this season there is still plenty of time to change your league position.

“They have plenty of quality in their side and we will have to be on our game again this weekend.

“We had a good home record last season and did well at the start of this season. We know that we owe the home support a result and that is what we will be looking to do in these two home games.”
