Davis says Fleetwood tie could be catalyst for confidence boost

Johnstone’s Paint Trophy holders Crewe Alexandra face a difficult away tie at Fleetwood this evening and manager Steve Davis wants a positive result from a trip to Highbury Stadium to kick start our season.

Crewe are set to face a host of our former players for the cup tie with the likes of Mark Roberts, Junior Brown, Antoni Sarcevic, Steven Schumacher and Dean Howell all now at Fleetwood.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is a really tough draw for us but we are the holders of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and will be doing our best to defend it. We would love to do what we did last season again.

“We want to progress as far as we can in any competition we enter and if you can get into the later rounds like we did last year then the reward could be a trip to Wembley.

“We will be concentrating on what we will be a tough game because on current form they are going well and we are not. We want to win every game and if you cannot win that one then you go for the next one.

“You have to get into that mind-set and a good result at somewhere like Fleetwood could just be the catalyst for an improvement in our League form. “
