Aneke Could Hold Key

22 October 2013

Former Stevenage man could be game changer tonight

The former Stevenage loanee Chuks Aneke could prove to be the key man in this evening’s match at Gresty Road. The young Arsenal starlet made six appearances at the Lamex Stadium and was also sent-off in a 1-0 home defeat by Leyton Orient in January 2012.

Aneke followed Graham Westley to Preston North End and made a further seven appearances at Deepdale before joining Crewe on loan in September 2012. Ironically he has scored against Stevenage already in a Crewe shirt and was sent off in 2-2 draw at the Lamex last season.

Aneke has been used as a ‘false number 9’ in the club’s back-to-back wins over his former club Preston and Bristol City.

Steve Davis has been delighted with Chuks’ contribution in a new system: “Chuks has the ability to hold the ball up and bring other players into the game. He can find those key passes and quality through balls and having those two quick wide men helps.

“The wingers have to play well and support him and they are. Chuks is a clever player and is hard to pick up. It is work in transition but we have been breaking with real quality and Chuks has been key to that.”
