Boss says players have to go out and show they are good League One players
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his side need to rediscover that consistency that saw us finish in a comfortable season last season. Crewe enjoyed a fairly consistent season to finish mid-table in League One and went on to lift the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley following a 2-0 win over Southend United.
Davis says the players who have experienced two Wembley finals in two years are now facing adversity for the first time in their young careers and that they will have to rise to the challenge going forward.
Steve told crewealex.net: “We have had two successful seasons, going to Wembley twice and having a good finish in League One last season, so they have proved in the past that they can do it. They can go and get results in this division and now it is up to them to go out and show that they are good League One players again.
“Nothing is new to them. They are not playing anything that they haven’t really faced before and know what this league is about. They are capable of good performances and results at this level and now they have to stand up and show it on a consistent basis.
“They have got to be better than they have shown because we have conceded some poor goals and not scored at the other end, so it is up to them to put it right. We have to find the solution and we will keep working hard to do that.
“We have been consistent when you look at the recent results against Preston, Bristol City and Bradford, big clubs, and then we get well beaten again at Brentford. We need to be more consistent and you can only do that i you have more of your players playing to their level.”
