Steve: "Didn't Get Much Luck"

26 November 2013

Steve gives us his reaction from Carlisle following 2-1 defeat

We kept ourselves going and Harry has headed one in from a corner late on so that was a positive.  We gave it a real go and forced their goalkeeper into a number of saves.  "We changed the shape and gave young Billy Waters his debut. I thought it was the ideal game to do that and he did fine tucked in on the left hand side.

"The first half was fairly even and we could have been celebrating a wonder goal from Vadaine. He scored a fantastic overhead kick but the referee had stopped the game for a head injury to Adam. Perhaps he could have let the play unfold a bit more before blowing his whistle but those sort of things seem to go against you when you are down there. we didn't get the rub of the green with that decision in the opening half. It would have been a huge advantage for us but we somehow got in 2-0. As I’ve said I had my speech ready for them for half time. It would have been 0-0 and we were in the game and playing okay.

Following the 2-1 defeat, Steve told crewealex.net: "I had prepared what I was going to say to the players at half-time and then after 44 minutes I was preparing something else. I was disappointed with that and those silly mistakes have cost us dearly. We are saying the same things to them but they have got to concentrate better, cut out mistakes and make better decisions.

Steve Davis said that Crewe Alexandra really shot themselves in the foot at the end of the first half after two late goals from Sean O'Hanlon and Matty Robson changed the whole complexion of what had been a relatively tight game until then. Crewe had to chase the game in the second half and did force Ben Amos into a number of good saves before Harry Davis headed home an injury time goal  from a corner. The Carlisle keeper then had to pull off a fantastic save to deny Michel West in stoppage time.

“That was his third goal of the season which makes him top scorer so that says everything. We have the loan deadline coming up on Thursday and we have to do something. We can only bring in two really because I have three on loan already but we need to bring in some quality.”
