Steve: "A Fantastic Result"

Steve gives his post-match reaction after hard fought win

Steve Davis praised his players after they dug in to win with ten men against Crawley Town this afternoon. Crewe lost their striker Vadaine Oliver after he was shown two yellow cards within the first ten minutes of the second half, one for an apparent dive, but the Railwaymen grab all three points thanks to a diving header from Chuks Aneke in the 81st minute.

"The lads showed some great fight and it was a great three points for us."

On his match winner, Steve said: "I was delighted for Chuks to head the winning goal. We have been trying to get him going over the last couple of weeks and I told him to go on and head the winner. I meant for the free-kick we had at the time but I will take the next cross.

"Then their player goes between two of ours inside the box and goes down and he gives nothing. He doesn't give a penalty or even speak to him, so there is that consistency again."

"I was just coming out of the dressing room for he first one so didn't really get to see it. I think he was booked for his arm catching him in his face or chest but the second one I was in shock. I thought he had been tripped and the referee was going to give us a penalty or free-kick for it being right on the edge. I couldn't understand the decision when he produced another yellow card and then a red one because it wasn't a dive. It wasn't for me and for most of the people in the stadium.

"We had enough chances in the first half to punish them but didn't take them so you worry that a free-kick or a set pay might go against you and you find yourself behind. We should have been ahead at half-time and then minutes into the second half we have lost Vadaine.

"It went against us again today but we kept going ad I thought we got a deserved win. We had our scary moments as well but we rode them and battled hard to get that win. The players worked hard for that and because of what we had to go through it was a fantastic result for us.

After the hard fought 1-0 win, Steve Davis told the club's official web-site: "It always feels good when you get a result and it gives everyone a lift. It is great for the fans who really stayed behind us today and for the club because we have had some tough times and some tough results.
