Alex boss gives us his reaction from Griffin Park following heavy defeatSteve Davis says his players have to stand up be counted in what is proving to be long hard season for the Alex this season. Crewe had defended reasonably well for the first 44 minutes of the game but after conceding to Trotta on the brink of the break and then just seconds into the second period, the flood gates opened at Griffin Park.
After the 5-0 defeat, Davis told the club's official web-site: "We are very disappointed with the result because we had stifled them for 44 minutes and were doing fine. We restricted them to a couple of half chances and they blazed one over the top of the bar and we looked like going in at the break at 0-0 and the game plan looked to be working.
"We didn't create too many changes either but they scored that first goal and we have been saying all season how important that break through is. It came at a bad time for us and then we conceded seconds into the second half. The first goal was a header from 18 yards out and I don't know how that has gone in from that distance, although it was a very good header. The second goal he got in too easily from the kick off and it wasn't good enough from our point of view and then they got a third and we were out of reach again. It has happened far too often.
"The players have got to believe they can do it. They went to Preston and did it and did it last season, so it is in them to play well and get a result. Of course, coming here is never an easy place to come but it was disappointing because we shipped goals again. I will have to watch them closely again to see where we have gone wrong and what we could have done better.
"When you have been disappointing in both penalty areas and not creating much to take the pressure off, it becomes very difficult. We have got to work harder, stick together and do much much better. We have all got to stand up and be counted and it is time to act because it is going to a long hard season in a tough league otherwise."
