Davis after more defensive displays like Saturday

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he would be pleased if his defence continued to play as well as they did on Saturday against Bradford. Crewe were involved in their first goalless draw for over 50 games and restricted the partnership of James Hanson and Nahki Wells to just a handful of half chances.

The Alex boss was delighted with the way his back five and midfield enforcers contained sixth-placed Bradford City, but has stressed the importance of producing better quality in the final third of the pitch.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “If the players can continue to defend like that, as a tight unit and we can add that real cutting edge in the final third of the pitch then we will be fine. I think we would be good enough with the players we have and the players we have to come back.

“I think we can do that we would move up the table quickly. I think we showed that we can be hard to beat and it was a big stride for us to take against a Bradford side who have been going well this season.

“It is something for us to build on and how we have to carry on and continue to get better.”
