Steve Davis says Jon's performances have to put pressure on Toots place
Steve Davis has challenged Jon Guthrie to grab his opportunity to again show that he could develop into a Crewe Alexandra regular.
Guthrie is set to deputise again for the injured Matt Tootle (foot) for this weekend’s FA Cup tie and after helping the Railwaymen collect a point from a goalless draw against Bradford City, the Alex boss wants the former Pewsey Vale defender to again show what he has to offer.
Ahead of the Cup tie at Wycombe, Steve said of his left-back: “Jon came in for Toots last weekend and did fine. He had his opportunity and we knew he wouldn’t let anyone down.
“He helped us get a point and a clean-sheet and that is all we can ask. He came back into the team and did well and the players know that when one player is missing for whatever reason, they have to take their chance.
“Jon has to try and put Toots under pressure by playing well. He has to come in and try and cement his place. “
