Mathias Close To Return To First-Team Group
Crewe Alexandra have been handed a real boost with the news that last season’s leading goal scorer Mathias Pogba is expected to return to the first-team group at some point in the next 10 days. Pogba, who hit 16 goals last season, has not featured this campaign after picking up a serious knee injury against Manchester United in pre-season.
The club’s Guinean International is running and kicking a ball again, but after missing such a large chunk of the season, he will be fully assessed before making that return to the group.
Boss Steve Davis is targeting the club’s ‘free weekend’ as the perfect opportunity to ease the former Wrexham man into his training sessions.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I would much prefer to still be competing in the FA Cup next weekend but we are not in it, so it gives us a chance to work hard and implement a few things. We can step back and work on a few things. It will be an important time for us.

“We will also look at that period to ease Mathias (Pogba) back into the group. He is running and kicking a ball again but it is just a question of working on his football fitness, which is different.
He added: “We have had to hold him back because he has been chomping at the bit to get back. We will monitor him and take him out of sessions if needs be to make sure we are cautious with him.”
