Psychologist Bill Beswick was invited to give players inspiring talk

Steve Davis invited the renowned sports psychologist Bill Beswick to the club’s training ground last week to provide a motivational and inspiring session to his squad.

Beswick has previously worked with the England junior teams, Manchester United and Middlesbrough and showed the players inspirational clips of past sporting events.

Crewe will be appointing their own sports psychologist as part of the Elite Player Performance Plan in the near future, who will work with the Academy players and on occasions, the first team squad.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It was good for the players to hear a different view and a different voice.

“Bill just gave a different perspective on things and has worked with some of the games top players and sportsman. I have never seen the players so quiet and intrigued when he was talking. I think it was only a very positive thing for them.

The boss added: “It was about rolling your sleeves up, working hard and being inspired. Afterwards some of them said they were ready to go out and play there and then and it was just a different experience for them. I am a firm believer that a lot of sport is in the mind and if anything can help with that then it is something to look at."
