Boss to keep faith with Al Martin as he chooses not to give Ben Garratt his frist start

Steve Davis admits he is reluctant to swap and change his side too much, as he searches for a formula that would make us more consistent. The Alex boss is to keep faith with his goalkeeper Alan Martin for tonight’s FA Cup replay against Wycombe Wanderers, despite the former Scotland Under-21 International saw five goals go past him at Griffin Park on Saturday.

The Crewe boss will hold fire on giving young Ben Garratt his chance in goal after giving both Martin and the veteran stopper Steve Phillips their chances this season.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I am sure Alan will think he could have better with one or two of the goals on Saturday, but we were overrun as well and it is not always down to the back four and the goalkeeper.

“He also made some very good saves, especially in the first half. One in particular was very good. We were all disappointed to have conceded five goals again but they have a chance to bounce back.

“I cannot keep swapping and changing the personnel and have more faith in the players. I have to give them a longer period in the team and that applies to the goalkeeper as well.”
