Learn To Win Again

Steve says decision-making cost us dearly in last two tight games

Steve Davis says that his struggling Crewe Alexandra side have got to learn how to win matches again after their winless streak reached eight on Tuesday evening at Carlisle.

Crewe have shown signs of improvement in our previous two games against Port Vale and Carlisle but lapses in concentration meant we collected no points for our concerted efforts.

The Alex boss was angered that a lapse of concentration at the back saw us concede two late goals in the first half at Brunton Park, the ultimately cost us the game.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The same things are happening and it is to do with their concentration levels and decision making. At times I don’t understand their thinking and we got punished for it on Tuesday night with the two goals in three minutes. It proved costly.

“We were saying the same things over and over again and it has got to sink in. When you lose a number of games in succession then that winning mentality disappears a bit. We have got to learn to win again and get back to knowing what it takes to win a game.

“We showed signs of that against Port Vale and had our moments against Carlisle, but we have to keep that going. We have to play with that intensity and tempo we showed against Port Vale every week if we are to turn things round.

He added: “Everyone knows that there is a lot of work to do.”
