Davis looking forward to meeting up with an old rival on the pitch

Steve Davis will be in opposition to a former player he knows well from his own playing days with the likes of Barnsley, Burnley and Oxford United. The former Republic of Ireland International Graham Kavanagh was a wonderfully gifted midfield player for the likes of Stoke City, Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic.

Kavanagh replaced the long serving Greg Abbott as manager of Carlisle back in September and Davis is looking forward to seeing a man he describes ‘as a real winner’ later today.

Ahead of the club’s trip to Carlisle, the boss told crewealex.net: “It is always a difficult game for any away side visiting Carlisle and now they have a relatively new manager in place. Graham was a great footballer and I played against him a few times.

“He has always been a winner and wore his heart on his sleeve when he played. I am sure his team will be very similar to that and it will be tough. Kav has come in with his own ideas and they have had some great results this season.

“We will have to play as well as we did in the first half against Port Vale to in with a chance of getting something.”
