Finishing Touch

13 November 2013

Steve confident that we can get back in the goalscoring groove

Steve Davis remains hopeful that our finishing touch will return sooner rather than later and that it could provide a trigger to finally get our season up and running.

The Alex were guilty of missing some good chances away at Wycombe in the FA Cup on Saturday but Davis was pleased with the number of clear cut opportunities we did create in the 1-1 draw.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “We could have won both of our last two games but we could have slipped up and lost one as well. We certainly look tighter at the back and I’ve been pleased with that.

“The lads know that we have to convert some of our chances better. We cannot keep missing good chances and expect to win games. We created the opportunities but need to be more clinical, but we have been saying that for much of the season.

“What can happen is that you get a bit of luck and one goes in when it perhaps shouldn’t and then you get another and the confidence comes back. One day it can really be your day and everything you hit flies in and we are certainly due one of those.

The boss concluded: “If that does happen then it gives everyone a real boost because the next time the player is in that situation again, he knows he is capable of putting it away. It can start things off and give you something to build on.”
