Evans Given Cup Permission

Young City starlet given green light to play for us at Wycombe

Manchester City has granted permission for their young midfielder George Evans to play for Crewe Alexandra in the FA Cup first round on Saturday. Evans, 18, made a fine start to his senior career with a mature performance in our 0-0 draw with Bradford City on Saturday.

As was the faith in his new loan signing, boss Steve Davis elected to leave out his club captain Abdul Osman at the weekend to hand Evans his first competitive start alongside Anthony Grant.

Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Wycombe, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Of course, it is great to have George available for the FA Cup.

“George made his debut for us on Saturday and he showed little bits of what he is capable of. He had a good, steady game in there for us and there will be more to come.

“It was a step up from Under-21 football, but he played with great maturity and showed some real quality at times. We were pleased with him and it was a good start.

“Now we have to see if playing regularly affects him physically. I’m sure he will be fine, but he is still a young lad and playing three games in a week can have an effect on young players.”
