Davis says FA Cup form has to improve after barren spells
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is looking for an extended run in the FA Cup after exiting the competition far too early over the last few years.
Crewe Alexandra last reached the FA Cup third round during the 2008/09 season before losing to Millwall at home in a replay and Davis wants that record to improve stating with a result at Wycombe this weekend.
That will be easier said than done against Gareth Ainsworth’s side who are currently three points off a play-off place in League Two.
Ahead of the trip to Adams Park, Steve told crewealex.net: “The FA Cup is special and it is the only cup we are left in after exiting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and Capital One Cup far too early.
“I want a run in the FA Cup but we have given a hard draw. We would certainly have liked a home draw and it will be a tough game.
“It will be a good atmosphere there. It is a good playing surface and a good stadium and it should be a decent game. Gareth has them playing good football and I have watched a number of DVD’s.
“We will prepare if it was a league game. It will be no different and we will treat them with great respect. We will have to go there and produce a professional performance because the FA Cup is a one off game and both teams have nothing to lose.”
