Steve says bench will pick itself at Adams Park for Cup tie

Steve Davis says that the substitutes’ bench will ‘virtually pick itself’ at Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow as the Crewe Alexandra manager has to contend with a growing list of injuries and absentees. Steve Phillips has been given the weekend off after his wife gave birth to a baby boy yesterday and Lee Molyneux has only recently returned from a bout of sickness to train yesterday. The former Accrington Stanley winger may still travel.

Long-term absentees Mathias Pogba and Ollie Turton are still out with knee injuries, whilst defender George Ray is ruled out with a tight hamstring.

Matt Tootle is progressing in regards to his foot injury but he won’t be risked this weekend with Jon Guthrie set to deputise at left-back.

Ryan Colclough, Thierry Audel and Michael West have all trained yesterday but this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Adams’ Park has come around too quickly for them to travel south.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have a few players missing and if Lee Molyneux is passed fit after a stomach bug then we will take 18 players. The bench will pick itself this weekend.

“We have young Billy Waters available again after he was ill and he has done okay recently. We have a few coming back from injury such as Westy, Coco and Thierry but this game has come too soon for them.”
