Davis hoping to remain in touch with clubs in our mini-league heading into 2014

Steve Davis is looking for his team to take Saturday’s performance against Port Vale into tonight’s away trip to Carlisle United. The Alex are looking for their first win in eight matches and although there were some real positives to take from the display against our near neighbours, it was the Valiants who snatched the result late on after George Evans had given us a deserved lead in the 35th minute with his first goal in senior football.

Davis knows his team are in a relegation scrap and he admits that it is imperative that we don’t lose too much ground in the quest to get out of the bottom four.

Ahead of tonight’s trip to Cumbria, the Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We can't get too detached from that little group at the bottom. We are very much in a scrap. We are in a second league and we have to stay with those around us.

“The players are aware we are in a fight and we have it all to do, the staff the players - we all have to be better at what we do.”
