Boss On Max Loss

Steve on the loss of his young striker through injury

Steve Davis has expressed his immense disappointment after Max Clayton sustained a serious ankle injury against Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening. The club’s young striker has undergone successful surgery to pin his ankle but a return this season seems unlikely.

Davis says it is a blow to lose a striker, who was beginning to show real signs of improvement in his confidence and performance.

The Alex boss told us: “Max always gives 100% and works hard every day. We are all gutted for him because he is a great lad as well.

“He has always been the same regardless of his contract situation. He has given everything he has and there were real signs in the way he has been training and playing that his confidence was returning.

“He was showing that inventiveness and has always had great energy and enthusiasm. It will be a loss to not him around the place because the only thing he was missing was a goal.

He added: “It is a major set-back for him and for us, but he is our player and we will look after him. We all wish him well and hope he has a quick recovery.”
