Steve says his side need to be more clincial to win tight games

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he is still pursuing reinforcements but won’t be doing anything in FA Cup week. The Crewe Alexandra boss recently added the Manchester City youngster George Evans to his team and granted him his senior debut in Saturday’s goalless draw with sixth-placed Bradford City.

The Crewe Alexandra boss says he would like to add an attacking midfielder to his ranks and has earmarked a clinical finisher as top of his priorities if things do not improve in the final third of the pitch.

Ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Wycombe, Steve told crewealex.net: “We are still pursuing players and we do have a list in mind if we need to do anything. We have put that a bit on the back burner following the performance on Saturday, but I would like to add one or two if we need to.

“The result on Saturday and with the FA Cup tie at Wycombe coming up gives us a bit more time and we can possibly wait a bit longer on that.

“We will continue to go out and watch games. We were out last night watching a forward and that is the area where we could strengthen. We haven’t scored enough goals, especially with the two players who might have scored a few more, Ryan and Pogba out injured.

“They might have had five or six if they had been able to play every game but our top scorer is on two goals and we need a clinical goal scorer who can finish things off when it drops in the box.

He added: “If we can score goals at one end, it would ease the pressure at the other end.”
