Davis wants improvement on the road
The ever demanding Steve Davis knows exactly where he wants to see his team improve this coming season. Davis was satisfied with his team’s season, finishing mid-table and lifting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley last month, but he wants his team to be tighter at the back, especially away from home. The Alex conceded 40 goals on their travels last season – the most from any League One side apart from those in the relegation zone.
Steve told crewealex.net: “I have had a look at the stats and although we have defended reasonably well and our home record has been very good, I feel we can improve the number of goals we concede away from home.
“We need to be tighter at the back and that is something we need to improve. We have conceded more than we should and conceded five at Brentford and four at Swindon. That is not just a back four issue; it involves the whole team defending better.
“We conceded 40 goals away from home and just 22 at home, so we know where we can improve. It is reasonable but could be better. 62 goals is too high for my liking.”
