Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The retain list is something you have to do and it is always difficult to sit down with players and say they don’t have a future here at the moment.
“We did it a lot later last season because of the play-offs, but we have been able to do sooner. It is never easy, especially with the younger ones who have been here for many years.
“I hope that on one hand we have done them a favour instead of dragging them through another year without them playing much. They need to play competitive games and develop that way. It is just a different route for them to resurrect their careers.
“I hope this can act as a spur for them to go on and prove me wrong. I am happy with my squad and the ones we have kept here. I would like to add to that and bring three or four more quality players in.”
