Gaffer on the speculation linking him with a possible move to Wolves
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that it is always flattering to be linked to the vacant Wolverhampton Wanderers job in the media, but he stresses that he hasn’t taken too much notice as he continues to prepare his squad for next season. Along with a large number of candidates, the Birmingham-born Davis is in the running according to the bookmakers, but the Alex boss says it is just the speculation you get when unfortunately a manager loses his job.
Davis told crewealex.net: “It is flattering to be linked with any job because it is means you have been successful at your respective clubs. I have been linked with various jobs in the media and you are going to have that speculation when a job becomes available.
“You just have to take that speculation in your stride and get on with things and that is what I’ve done on a few occasions here. I don’t tend to react to speculation and it has never been a distraction to me.
“All I’m doing is preparing the Crewe Alexandra squad for next season and have been kept busy talking to players, agents and discussing things with Bakes (Neil Baker).
“I have been mentioned for the Wolves job but that is amongst many other names and with a number of other managers who have a lot more experience and been involved in more games than I have.
Steve added: “I haven’t even thought about the Wolves job or any other. I am just focussed on what needs to be done here in the summer”.
