Defender signs new one year deal
Crewe Alexandra is pleased to announce that young defender Jon Guthrie has signed a new one-year contract with the club. The 20-year defender marked a progressive first season with the club when making his full debut away at Bournemouth in January. Guthrie played at left-back in the 3-1 defeat but his usual position remains in the centre of the back four.
Guthrie made his ‘debut’ against Swindon Town back in October, when replacing Michael West late on during the club’s 2-1 win. A groin injury kept him out for the last two months of the season, but the youngster had shown enough to be given another chance by manager Steve Davis.
The defender joined Crewe in the summer of 2012 after being spotted playing his local side Pewsey Vale.
On signing his new one-year-deal, Jon told Crewe Alex Player: “I am delighted to sign for another year and to be given another chance. It was a bit of a nervy time for me to have the injury and missed over two months of football.
“When you are out of contract and injured, it could go either way, so I’m just pleased that Steve and Neil (Baker) have seen something in me to offer me another year and hopefully I can repay them with the performances next season.
“The injury is fine now. I will be fine for pre-season and it is just a question of working on my fitness and getting that match practice again. “
