Neil Baker on Crewe's transfer objectives and the problems he can face

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker says the summer will be a crazy period again as agents begin to offer their clients for transfer. Baker has already suggested that he has been inundated with potential transfer targets, but stresses that agents are not always familiar about Crewe’s budget or requirements.

Baker told the club’s official web-site: “Sometimes you get calls from an agent who has no idea how we work or what we are looking for. We have some crazy suggestions and they are put to us throughout the year, not just the summer.

“We can get some ridiculous ones that are quickly dismissed and suggestions from agents with players playing well below League One. You can get a call from an agent saying he has a player at Leamington Spa or whoever, who was once released as a 12 year-old from an Academy and has played in the Sunday league, but is a typical Crewe player.

“They are all typical Crewe players when you receive calls like that. That happens quite frequently with people not quite familiar at what we do or can afford.

He added: “The supporters know that we work as hard as we can to improve the squad and we did last summer when we had to find new players. Everyone loves new faces coming in and we are very particular in who we target to bring in.”
