Neil Baker challenges the Alex to push on
Neil Baker has challenged the Crewe Alexandra squad to push on next season and build on the success of the last 12 months. The club’s assistant manager says the club have to manage exceptions and keep them realistic as we battle in a highly competitive League One this coming season, but Baker believes that last season’s experience to finish half way and revisit Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final will only enhance the belief amongst the squad.
Neil told crewealex.net: “It was a pleasing season from us but we were not totally satisfied because it was so close but yet so far. It was great to get back to Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint and I wouldn’t swap the day or the occasion but perhaps it did affect us a bit in the next few games.
“Maybe it was a distraction that cost us a play-off place, who knows.
“The club is in a good state though and it has been an exciting two years for us. We have thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m sure so have the loyal supporters, but now it is a question of can we push on again.
“The league is getting bigger and stronger. You only have to look at the likes of Wolves and Bristol City coming down to see how hard it is going to be. It is going to be a hard task but one we are looking forward to.
“We cannot match the big budgets of most of the other clubs but that is what makes it an exciting challenge. We know what we have and we always do our best to bring in the best players we can.”
