Davis hoping to sign Ellington until the end of the season

Steve Davis says that he would like to secure the services of the experienced Nathan Ellington until the end of the season because his presence would give everyone a welcomed boost. The former Wigan, Watford and Ipswich striker has been training with the club over the last few weeks and has certainly made an impression with four goals in four Under-21 matches. The 31-year-old has being playing catch-up with his fitness after leaving Championship side Ipswich Town in January.

He has previously spent a period on loan at League One side Scunthorpe but his appearances were limited to just six games.

The Alex boss is hoping to convince the goal getter to stay until at least the end of the season.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:  “Nathan has settled in here really quickly and I have read and seen that he is enjoying himself here. He has come here and played games and worked on his fitness. He has scored four in four games and that is hard to ignore.

“We would like him to stay. His experience could be pivotal for us at a crucial time of the season. We are trying to move forward with it and we will keep trying with it.

“If we can do something with Nathan, it might just give everyone a real boost and increase our competition further.”
