Steve: "We Deserved More"

Steve Davis gives us his post match reaction

Crewe boss Steve Davis felt that his side deserved more after the Alex were held to a 1-1 draw against Shrewsbury Town. The Alex pressed for a winner during the second period, with substitute Nathan Ellington hitting the bar with his first touch in a Crewe shirt, but had to make do with a point on a wet afternoon at Gresty Road.

Byron Moore gave Crewe an early lead during the game before Luke Summerfield headed Shrewsbury level. Davis was disappointed with Shrewsbury’s goal, but was generally pleased with the way his side performed against the Shrews.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I thought it was a good game and we put in a good performance, more so in the second half. We really showed some desire to win the game.

“We came out and caused them some problems in the first-half and got a goal up but then we have got done on a counter-attack. The only thing that let us down was our organisation from our throw-in. We had one or two out of position and it cost us.

“But overall I was pleased with the way we defended. It is not easy against big powerful forwards like Shrewsbury had. Our centre-backs coped very well and that is the sort of test that they will have to keep coping against.

“Generally I was pleased with the whole performance and I thought we were going to win the game. We didn’t have to make changes in the game because I thought we had a goal in us. But we decided to bring on Nathan because I thought he could grab a winner for us and he came so close to doing that.

“But it was good to put on one of our better performances at home and we were just unfortunate not to get the three points.”
