Steve: "Disappointed"

29 March 2013

Alex boss gives us his reaction from Gigg Lane after 2-2 draw.

Steve Davis was left disappointed with the two goals we conceded at Gigg Lane this afternoon. The Alex twice let through Max Clayton and a returning Brad Inman but were pinned back thanks to equalising goals from Tom Soares and a stoppage time penalty from Andy Bishop.

After the 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane, Steve told crewealex.net: "With the position we were in 2-1 up going into the stoppage time, I am disappointed not to have won the game. I was disappointed to concede the two goals we did and especially a last minute penalty. I will have to see the incident again and I don't want to comment until I have. I think Toots has had an air shot with a clearance and someone has fallen over so he has seen something and given it, but I didn't see it clearly enough to make a comment yet.

"We knew it would be a tough game because Bury have nothing to lose and are fighting for their lives. They are giving everything and we knew what the game was going to be like. We knew they had attacking players on the pitch to have a real go and we had to deal with that. I thought we did stand up to it.

"We were fortunate to go in 1-0 up but it was the move of the match for the goal. It started with the centre-halves and Harry bringing it out and then Pogba has found Mellor and his cut back was finished first time by Max. It was a great finish. It was a good move and a good goal.

"Their equaliser could have been avoided from our point of view and he has smuggled it in after Steve has made a save.

"I've said we want to try and win every game so we went for it with the three changes. I just thought the fresh legs when we were on top in the final 20 minutes might pay off. Brad and Chuks can create and score goals and they were both involved in Brad's goal, as was Ollie. That is what Brad can offer us. He scores goals from midfield, has a great shot and we have missed him. It is good to have him back with us.

Steve added: "It was a tough and difficult game and we stood up it well but I am disappointed to be conceding the type of goals we are at the moment and they seem to be coming from wide areas and that needs to be addressed."
