Davis says Joe Dunne has got Colchester going again

Steve Davis has praised the recent revival of Saturday’s opponents Colchester United under their manager Joe Dunne. The U’s are making a real fight of it to pull themselves away from the relegation zone and secure safety in League One. After a disappointing November to January, Dunne’s side have recently won five games in nine games to keep them in touch.

Crewe, who have recently lost to relegation threatened Hartlepool and Portsmouth appreciate that it will be another tough test this weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Colchester have got themselves going under Joe and having a real go to try and stay up. They have had some positives results and given themselves a chance; much in the same way Hartlepool have of late.

“It doesn’t matter if you are playing Sheffield United away or Portsmouth at home in this division, they are all difficult games. The games can go either way and it is a tight league because there is ability in all the teams.

“The games are often very close and have to work hard to get a result. If you are not on it from the start then you will probably get beat.

“Colchester are fighting for their lives and when you face a team like that at this stage of the season, it makes it difficult. Sometimes there is no pressure on them and the pressure is on the top teams as they try and get out of the division.

“They will be eager to stay in the division and we know we will have to play better than we did at Hartlepool if we are to get anything.”
