Boss on bringing on Colclough gradually
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he felt it was the right time to hand young winger Ryan Colclough his senior debut against the MK Dons.
Colclough had made 12 substitute appearances this season, scoring his first goal in a 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth back in January. Colclough was handed his first start and made an impressive contribution in the club’s 2-1 win over the Dons on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old was promoted by the Alex boss after Byron Moore failed a fitness test on his leg.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have introduced Ryan gradually as a substitute this season and I just felt it was the right time to bring into it. With Byron ruled out through injury, he was just the obvious choice to come in. He has trained well and played well for the Under-21s.
“He has been on the stand-by list for the England Under-19s this season as well, so he is getting noticed and he had a fine full debut. He can create something with one of those little turns or a jinking run. He can also take a goal. He could have scored two goals very early on in the game and had another effort in the second half when he spun on the edge of the box and shot wide.
“He can create those little chances for himself and gets into good positions. He is direct and makes things happen. At the moment we will play him on the wing because it is more straight-forward for him but in time he may adapt to play more centrally.”
