Murphy Doubtful For Crawley Trip

22 March 2013

Captain rated 50/50 with a slight groin strain

Crewe Alexandra captain Luke Murphy is rated as doubtful for this weekend’s clash at Crawley. Murphy, who has been in the form of his life this season, with 10 assists and 7 goals from midfield was forced off against the MK Dons on Tuesday evening after aggravating his groin when stretching for the ball in a tackle. The club remain hopeful that the injury is not that serious and if Murphy doesn't make the trip to Sussex then he could be ready for the Easter double-header against Bury and Preston.

Youngster Oliver Turton remains on stand-by for what would be only his second start for the club after previously operating at right-wing back at Preston North End back in December. Turton replaced Murphy on Tuesday evening and helped the club record a fine 2-1 win over MK Dons.

If Murphy does not make it, Davis could still change things with the versatile Chuks Aneke also in contention.

Ahead of the trip to Crawley, Steve told crewealex.net: “Murph has been struggling with is groin and we have sent him for a scan this morning to have a look at it. He is a doubt for tomorrow.

"His groin felt Sore after Tuesdays game and he just over stretched a bit. It is important that we don't take too much of a risk with him and make it worse because we don't want him to suffer a set-back and miss the final games of the season."
