Free Week Has Done Us Good

Steve says week of work will benefit his players

Steve Davis says he will assess the mental as well as physical state of his players ahead of this weekend’s trip to Colchester. The Alex boss has virtually a fit squad to choose from but is still waiting on positive news regarding Brad Inman (ankle).

Steve is thankful that a free week from matches has come at the right time for his squad.

The Alex manager told us: “A week without a game couldn’t have come at a better time they are weary mentally and physically and for one or two of them it started to catch them up a bit.

“I have to look at their body language and the impact on their confidence. We are all disappointed, it hurts us just as much as it hurts the fans and we feel the need to put it right.

“For us to lose two games on the run suddenly there is doubt around and that is a great reaction from the fans because it proves we have come a long way, we take it on the chin.

He added: “You can’t totally forget about Wembley but staying in this division is more important. But there is no panic.”
