Alex assistant manager demands more from his squad
Crewe Alexandra assistant manager has told the Alex side to play for their Wembley places over the weeks building up to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final with Southend United.
Like boss Steve Davis, Baker was left fuming after a below-par display against Hartlepool United in midweek which saw the Alex well beaten by a three goal margin.
Speaking to Crewe Alex Player yesterday, Baker said that the whole squad must keep their standards high: “Maybe one or two of the players were dreaming of an appearance at Wembley with the performance at Hartlepool on Tuesday night. They can’t do that at this stage of the season with the number of games that we have left.
“People can’t hold their places on performances like that, and they need to learn that. We have got people chomping at the bit trying to get back in to the side.
“The players are playing for a place in the Wembley team. The team that played at Hartlepool almost certainly won’t be the team that will play at Wembley so they need to produce better.”
