Steve wants his side to be a tighter unit again

After uncharacteristically conceding 10 goals in our last five matches, Steve Davis and his coaching staff have been revisiting the basics of defending in training this week. Davis, a former centre-half himself with the likes of Oxford, Barnsley and Burnley prides himself on making Crewe Alexandra a tough unit to break down and he has been left disappointed with our goals against of late.

Crewe have conceded five of those goals against strugglers Hartlepool and Portsmouth in our last two games and the Alex boss is looking for a vast improvement at Colchester this weekend.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We have conceded too many goals of late and been chasing games because of it. We have defended reasonably well this season but recently there has been creaking back there.

“We have spent this week looking at it and working on it. The majority of our focus has been making us tighter at the back. It has been a return to basics.

“I want us to get back on track, make us tighter and stop teams creating chances against us. We have worked on pressurising and defending as a unit and that includes everyone, not just the back four, who at times have had to deal with a lot of pressure.”
