Vadaine Has Great Potential

Boss excited by his former Owl Oliver

Steve Davis is hoping that new summer signing Vadaine Oliver can have a similar impact to that of last season’s leading scorer Mathias Pogba. The former Wrexham striker scored 16 goals before injury struck on Easter Monday and his form showed that he could quite clearly make the step up from non-league into League football.

Oliver, who was a promising youngster at Sheffield Wednesday because injury struck, made a great impact at Lincoln City last season and his 14 goals helped the Imps escape relegation from the Conference. His impressive displays, certainly in the second half of the campaign attracted interest from Football League clubs, but Crewe acted quickly to sign the promising 21-year-old on a two-year deal.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Vadaine was a bit unfortunate with his career at Sheffield Wednesday. He got injured just as he was looking to break into the first team. He went to Lincoln and enjoyed his football again.

“He is still a young lad and has time on his side. He is still 21 and looking to improve and that is why we were eager to bring in him. He has a lot of potential and if he can have the same sort of impact as Pogs then it would be another good signing for us.

“It didn’t take Pogs long to adjust to this level and it would be great for Vadaine to be in the same sort of bracket.”
