Forward back and confident he will be fit for the start of the new season
Crewe Alexandra forward Mathias Pogba has returned to South Cheshire after a spell away in Italy recovering from thigh surgery. Pogba missed the last seven games of Crewe’s season after suffering a tear in his thigh in the 1-0 win over Preston in early April, and had been away from the last month as he built up his fitness.
Pogba returned to training yesterday and while he wasn’t able to take part in a full session with the rest of the Alex squad, he worked with head physio Rob Sharp. The big-man is confident he will be fit for the opening game of the season with Rotherham United on August 3rd.
Elsewhere, Gregor Robertson is the only other long-term injury in the Alex squad. Robertson suffered an Achilles tendon injury at Crawley back in late March, and has spent the summer looking to recover. Again Robertson is hopeful he will be fit in time for the opening day.
